Today's story about giant squid - a question for the yahoo news team...?

Why is todays story about giant squid moving into new waters written as if to evoke sympathy for fishermen when it is ultimately due to unscrupulous and ecologically damaging fishing practices that numbers of the squid's natural predators have been reduced? Why is so little made of this fact?
