What is Carbon Monoxide?
Carbon Monoxide is a gas (CO). It is released by gas appliances, and if not properly ventilated, will build up in the home. When the CO builds up to dangerous levels, you end up taking in more carbon monoxide than oxygen (O2). Your red blood cells will absorb CO much faster than O2, so your body will not be receiving enough oxygen in the blood stream. This causes tissue damage and death. CO is colorless and odorless. To prevent CO poisoning, have all gas appliances serviced by technicians. Keep the detector up at all times, and make sure appliances are properly ventilated (This is also why sitting in a closed garage with the car running is deadly, and why using a generator inside your home is deadly).
