How do you train a rat to run on a wheel or in a rat ball?

I got a male rat last Sunday named Chester. He's super hyper so I got him a wheel to let him off some energy, and I also have a rat ball from my previous rat. But he doesn't know how to use either, although he's more willing to get in the rat ball. Does anyone know how to train a rat how to use these toys?
